Karen was born in Providence, RI. She has early memories of being fascinated by the way light appeared to alter objects. At 17, she purchased her first 35 mm camera and there began her interest in black and white photography. Feeling the need for blue skies, Karen relocated to the Tampa Bay Area of Florida in the late 80s. It was there that her interest in photography transformed into a passion. Karen found Florida becoming too busy and was dismayed at the rapid disappearance of the wild lands. She moved to Taos, NM in the Fall of 1999.
Karen and her artistic colleague, Pamala S. Dean are developers of Dragonfly Journeys, now Pamala S. Dean's Taos Art Retreat. Karen's photography has been published in the MPM 2000 Calender and the International Library of Photography, has won a First Place Award and is currently on display in homes, galleries, and offices throughout the United States. Karen continues to shoot Black and White utilizing ambient light and to print her photos in Dragonfly Journeys darkroom. She can also be found throwing clay pots, teaching workshops, or firing pots at the Retreat's Studio and Raku area. |
